  • The Three Detectives and the Mystery of the Broken Window

D Carlini, Paul Winward, Meghan Lang

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Dec. 1, 2017)
Meet Diego, Tina and Fred. Together they are the Three Detectives - ready to solve any mystery, any time. Winter is coming to town and the Three Detectives are called on for another case. A mysterious incident shocks the school of the three friends. Teachers and students are baffled. Will the Three Detectives be able to solve their most difficult case before time runs out? The Reading together! illustrated series is aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 7. It provides parents and teachers with an innovative tool that seeks to accelerate the child's learning process, based on an extremely playful component: both the adult and the child read the story together by taking turns, sharing by this means the reading experience. Each of them will read specific pages of the book, properly formatted and written (in terms of length, vocabulary and syntactic complexity) according to the target reader (whether it be the child or the adult). As a result, the child perceives the process of learning to read as a game, as a fun time that their parents or teachers share with them, facilitating a natural and effective immersion into the habit of reading. This way, the child gains confidence, fluidity and ease when reading, all while strengthening their reading comprehension.

  • The grumpalump

    Sarah Hayes

Paperback (Candlewick Press, March 15, 1998)
Even listeners too young to know the difference between a gnu and a yak will love the sounds of this cumulative tale, as a parade of animals confronts the mysterious grumpalump, which just lies there--a big multicolored pile of stuff--resisting the animals' attempts to get it to do something but grump. Large print and lots of defining white space make this a terrific just-one-more for storytime.
